My story

[p]In October 2019 I will be running the MOAB 240 Mile UltraMarathon in Utah, USA.[/p][p]It is a 240 mile footrace around the Moab desert, Canyonlands national park and the La Sal mountains. The race has 112 hour cut off and is one of the toughest in the world because of the terrain, distance and same elevation incline as Mt Everest.[/p][p]The reason for this is because back in October 2015, I was fortunate enough to embark on amazing Operation Smile Mission to Mekele in Ethiopia[/p][p]When i recount the work the volunteers did with patients during the mission in Ethiopia and all around the world it is amazing to behold.[/p][p]They are nurses, doctors, surgeons, administrators from around the world who give their own personal time to help others. Their dedication to the cause is truly inspiring to witness, working around the clock, tiring themselves out to improve the life of others.[/p][p]We all think we understand what a charity does but witnessing it firsthand was a real privilege and encourages me to want to do more to help.[/p][p]Throughout the course of the week, i was able to chat with many of the volunteers and help out in the wards, pre op/ post op area with many of the patients and see that work in action. [/p][p]For those unfamiliar a cleft is a gap or split in the upper lip and/or roof of the mouth (palate). It is present from birth.[/p][p]The gap is there because parts of the baby's face didn't join together properly during development in the womb. It is also the most common facial birth defect in the UK, affecting around one in every 700 babies.[/p][p]The way that i wish to help Operation Smile is to help raise the funds they need to perform these surgeries, it costs around £150 to fix a smile, to change someone's live.[/p][p]All i ask is for you to consider the story above and if you can help out or contribute any way to the Operation Smile charity then please do.[/p][p]Thank you for your consideration and support.[/p]
