Team story

[p]The girls, parents and friends of the Longwell Green U12’s Girls football team have set a number of personal challenges during 2020 to raise money for our four chosen charities in support of Team Bolt. [/p][p]We are helping our dear friends whose son aged 14 was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia in July 2019. He has undergone very intensive chemotherapy since this time and is currently receiving a bone marrow transplant. This is an extreme form of treatment which involved full body irradiation and a stem cell transplant. He is in isolation and has been for the past couple of months. He is extremely unwell and at an increased risk of infection and will be for sometime while his immune system rebuilds. [/p][p]Devastatingly, whilst their son was having the transplant, at the end of November, their daughter who is just 12 years old was diagnosed with a very aggressive and rare brain tumour. She is now undergoing cranial radiotherapy and chemotherapy of her own. [/p][p]As I am sure you can appreciate, this is an unbearably overwhelming and distressing situation for the family who are facing a huge amount of uncertainty as to what the future holds over the next year.[/p][p]Sadly both children also spent their birthdays and Christmas in hospital this year.[/p][p]Seeing first hand what services these charities provide to Team Bolt and other families, we are treating 2020 as a year of giving something back to say thank you.[/p][p]Our challenges will include runs, obstacle races, cake baking, bag packing and so much more along the way so please help us to support our friends and get our ‘number one left back’ and her brother back on the pitch. ❤💙[/p]
