My story

[p]I have very kindly been offered a place at the 2021 London Marathon to help raise funds for MapAction. I will also be raising funds for Dogs Trust as part of my ongoing support for the fantastic work they do.[/p][p]I will be pulling on my trainers and putting in the many miles and hours of training so I can give my best on the day of the marathon… all to maximise awareness and funds for MapAction and Dogs Trust.[/p][p]Please do help me support MapAction ad Dogs Trust in anyway you can. Please direct folk to my blogs and social media as I progress through training, and more importantly spread the word of the incredible work MapAction and Dogs Trust do. If you feel able, I would be grateful of any sponsorship you feel able: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/EdwardWallington. I look forward to seeing fellow runners out there![/p][p][/p][p]For those that have not heard of MapAction, they are a non-profit organisation that collaborates with partners around the world to help anticipate, prepare for and respond to humanitarian emergencies. They strive to ensure governments, regional and local disaster management agencies and humanitarian responders have access to the information and analysis that they need to make key decisions, at the right times, to save lives and alleviate suffering.[/p][p]MapAction believes that applying geospatial expertise to humanitarian situations can greatly improve outcomes for the people affected.[/p][p]Example COVID-19 map from MapAction (c) MapAction[/p][p][/p][p] [/p][p]Global humanitarian needs outstrip resources. Expert geospatial and data analysis can help stretch those resources for maximum impact. Many professionals want to donate their energy and skills to help. MapAction is the bridge which enables them to do so effectively. You can read more about how MapAction provide support here.[/p][p]It is also worth a read of the support activity around COVID-19, to name one of many support situation over the past year.[/p][p]The work of MapAction resonates with me. I work for a leading geospatial company, and am aware of the value location can provide to a range of situations, especially humanitarian and emergency responses.[/p][p][br][/p][p]I am also running the London Marathon 2021 to raise funds for the Dogs Trust.[/p][p]I have a wonderful dog (Chocolate Labrador) who loves running, and goes everywhere with us. Many people that I know have dogs, and also take them running and walking. They really are our best friends/part of our families.[/p][p]The Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity and cares for over 15,000 dogs each year through a network of 20 rehoming centres in the UK. They have been involved in every piece of legislation affecting dogs over the past 126 years.[/p][p]Dogs Trust is the UK's largest dog welfare charity and cares for over 15,000 dogs each year through a network of 20 rehoming centres in the UK. They have been involved in every piece of legislation affecting dogs over the past 126 years. Most dogs find loving new homes within about six weeks but those who need a little extra care are always safe with the Dogs Trust because they never destroy a healthy dog.[/p][p]Your sponsorship contributions are used to help all the dogs in care. The money is used to cover the costs of running the Rehoming Centre, costs such as heating the kennels and washing the dogs' bedding. The money also goes towards treats for the dogs, training and medical care - all with the ultimate goal of finding each dog a loving home.[/p][p]You can read more about my running training and fund raising progression here: www.edwallington.com/running.[/p]
