Team story

[p]We will be abseiling down the Spinnaker Tower at Gunwharf Quays on Sunday 27th May 2018 to raise funds for:[/p][p]PAPYRUS, who are the national charity for the prevention of young suicide. Suicide is the biggest killer of young people – male and female – under 35 in the UK. In 2015, 1,659 young people took their own lives. That equates to over four per day. Every year many thousands more attempt or contemplate suicide, harm themselves or suffer alone, afraid to speak openly about how they are feeling.[/p][p] SURVIVORS OF BEREAVEMENT BY SUICIDE CHARITY, who offer a unique and distinct service for bereaved adults across the UK, run by the bereaved for the bereaved. Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide exist to meet the needs and break the isolation experienced by those bereaved by suicide. They also strive to improve public awareness.[/p][p]Carla Baverstock-Jones: Young lives are being lost to suicide at an alarming and escalating rate. My own children have experienced the tragic loss of some of their friends and having seen the raw devastation which suicide leaves, more support must be available to prevent such desperate, desolate acts.[/p][p]Gill Foster – My reasons for doing this are that sadly 15 years ago my father took his own life which was something that as a family was very difficult to deal with. Without realising this affected my own life together with that of my children for many years, trying to understand why he did this terrible thing. I have always tried to look forward and not dwell on the past if there was a support group like SOBS available at the time I am sure we would have dealt with the emotions and affects of something like this easier talking to people who have experienced this. [/p][p]For this reason I am raising money for a charity which will help a lot of other people not go through what my family and I have. This is for my Dad and I believe I understand why now but it never gets any easier. [/p][p]Sarah Craig: Friends and Family members of mine have experienced losing loved ones to suicide. My hope is that by raising funds for both of these worthwhile charities, more awareness will be made and all those suffering and in need will be able to find the help, love and support available to them.[/p][p] [/p][p][br][/p]
