My story

[p]Whilst on holiday in Cyprus in 1990 my 4-year-old daughter Alexina became very drowsy during dinner; within a matter of hours of this photo being taken she was fighting for her life in hospital. Alexina had contracted Meningitis.[/p][p]Her drowsiness quickly turned to a fever, severe headache, vomiting and aching joints. Being on holiday and away from home, we didn't ‘wait to see how she was in the morning’, instead we took her to see a local doctor. It turns out getting this immediate medical help probably saved her life. [/p][p]3 weeks of intense treatment in hospital followed before she was discharged and her long road to recovery could begin. Now, 26 years later, Alexina and her husband Dan are expecting their first child and I feel it is my turn to give something back to Meningitis Now, the amazing charity that supported us during our time of need. [/p][p]As a 57-year-old, who hasn’t even run for a bus in 40 years, the training so far has been challenging to say the least! Bits break and my physio has to stick me back together again, however ‘Knighty’ is firmly on track to start, and most importantly finish, the Virgin London Marathon on 22nd April.[/p][p]So, if you would like to:[/p][p]1. Support a great cause[/p][p]2. Support a mid-life crisis![/p][p]3. See me suffer – donations over £25 will receive a signed photo of said suffering!![/p][p]4. All 3 of the above!!![/p][p]Please give generously and let’s work together to create a future where no-one in the UK loses their life to meningitis, and everyone affected gets the support they need to rebuild their lives.[/p][p]A heartfelt thank you from the Knight family.[/p]
