Team story

[p]“I’ll do it if you do it,” I said to my son after a friend who works for the charity Livability offered us two places in the London marathon. I expected Barney to say no. To my horror he said yes. Thus – aged 61 and having never run more than 10km in my life – I was locked in to the hardest physical challenge of my life. As was Barney.[/p][p]We began our training with a 5km run shortly before Christmas. As we gasped for breath after finishing, we could see no way novices like us would ever run eight times that distance. Over the past three months we have run roughly 2.5km further every week. We have suffered extremes of pain, boredom, cold and exhaustion – sometimes all four together. We have many times asked why on earth we are doing this, and longed to give up. But we’re still going.[/p][p]We are now up to 32.5km. We hope to reach 35km before the marathon itself. On the day, somehow, Barney and I will both complete the 42km – even if we have to crawl. And the more we can raise for Livability, an eminently worthwhile charity that helps the disabled live full and active lives, the more determined we will be.[/p][p]Thank you for your support!![/p]
