Team story

[p]So within the space of 24 hrs we impulsively thought it would be fun to do a long distance bike ride for some charities which meant a lot to us! So we have decided to cycle around all 26 Irish racecourses over the course of 11 days, a distance of 1442km. We are doing it for the Injured Jockeys Fund and Mind. The trip will be likely to contain a few pints of Guinness, Bailey grazing his knee, a lot of quotes from Hot Fuzz and The Young Offenders, rain, and a few miles of cycling. [/p][p]Please see the charities and team sheet below![/p][p]Injured Jockeys Fund[/p][p]The IJF offers support, advice and access to rehabilitation to jockeys in the UK who have been seriously injured in the course of racing. The IJF has helped many of our friends, in some cases relatives, recover from life changing injuries. The work that goes on at Oaksey house and Jack Berry House, has been praised to the highest level for helping jockeys recover both physically and mentally from accidents.[/p][p]Mind[/p][p]Mind provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. They won't give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect! We all feel that this is a topic of big concern, not only in racing, but around the world, at the minute. We have all seen the effects that it can have to people, and we really wanted to raise money and awareness for the great charity![/p][p]Thank you in advance for your generous, donations. If you have any requests for us to do on our trip, in return for donations, please get in touch![/p][p]Team Sheet[/p][p]Ed Bailey (7), with 3 older sisters it surprises us all that Ed didn't turn out gay, despite his own best efforts, he is able to claim the opposite. Ed loves farming, and riding racehorses, in particular the ones which have letters for form(f,r,u,s,p), and not numbers, like the rest of us. If he's not telling you which horse to buy at Doncaster sales, he's most likely telling you about that time he won on Patricks Park. Ed can only have 1 pint before he speaks fluent Herefordian - a language that no one else on earth speaks(enhanced to the 2 pints thanks to the RAU). He has never been known to sleep on this earth, and has the work ethic of a North Korean. Ed will have to apply for a passport for this trip as he has never left the UK, despite claiming he once went to Wales.[/p][p]Best quotes from Ed:[/p][p]'I went for a 5k run yesterday, and when I got back I wasn't tired, so I just did it again"[/p][p]'Thank you' - you could probably slap him and he would still say it. [/p][p]Most Notable Accomplishments:[/p][p]Winning the Ledbury hunt race 3 times in a row.[/p][p]Losing on Patricks Park.[/p][p]Still failing to have a hair style.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Ed Henderson (7), has been in his brothers shadow since the moment he left the womb. In an attempt to escape has ended up doing a law degree, a slight over compensation for which he is now in too deep to return. Most likely to be the unfittest of the quartet, but will attempt to fuel the team by being the brunt of most jokes. Ed only rides horses safe enough for your Granny, in an attempt to keep his bottle above 10% full. Having unexpectedly lasted 2 years at university, Ed now sees himself as an experienced Ale drinker. He has volunteered himself to down a pint of Guinness at every winning post in Ireland. [/p][p]Best Quotes[/p][p]'When I play strip poker, the last item I always take off is my schoffel'[/p][p]Most notable achievements:[/p][p]Winning on Ballybough Gorta (hadn't you heard?).[/p][p]Still being at University[/p][p]Blackmore Vale Novice Hedge Laying Champion 2017[/p][p][br][/p][p]Zac Baker (5), full brother to a Group 1 winner, out of an unraced mare. If not riding winners around Larkhill, Zac is most likely in the beer tent (at Larkhill). Once he's had more than 1 pint (probably a bit generous) he likes to think that he has a way with the ladies. In actual fact he's more like Moses when hits the club as he parts the dance floor with his **** dance moves. The only thing larger than Zac's love for beer is his nose, which has apparently gives him issues with his weight in the Weighing Room. [/p][p]Best Quotes[/p][p]'Its not the speed that kills, its the the suddenly stopping!' [/p][p]Most notable achievements: [/p][p]Winning the Welsh Champion Hurdle on The New One. [/p][p]Doing 12st on a weekly basis.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]Hugh Nugent (7), from a family steeped in racing history, Hugh is without doubt the most experienced cyclist in the team (not hard!) Huge Huge or Nugget works for Venetia Williams having graduated from the **** shovelling academy of Grange Hill Farm. Hugh has a racey pair of Oakley sun glasses which allow him to cycle twice as fast as anyone else. [/p][p]Best Quotes[/p][p]'I did it, I wouldn't have done it sober, but I did it'[/p][p]Most Notable Accomplishments:[/p][p]Doing 9 stone 7 enthusiastically on a horse rated 67.[/p][p]Lasting a whole term at University[/p][p][br][/p][p]Stan Sheppard (3) , unable to ride a bike, so Stan has agreed to borrow his parent's horse and cart so he can follow us around and carry our kit. It would be unlike Stan to miss an opportunity where there is a slight chance we could have drink, so he has come, just in case. Ireland is perfect for Stan, as there is never any sun. The only person in the country to drive a white Mercedes C class and not be a drug dealer. Again, this team member will have to apply for a passport. [/p][p]Best Quotes[/p][p]'Could be worse, could be in downtown Aleppo' [/p][p]*anything from Hot Fuzz[/p][p]Most Notable Accomplishments[/p][p]Completed the Dave Rochester 'School for Kid's who can't muck out good, and want to do other stuff good too' 3yr apprenticeship. [/p][p]Winning Sussex Champion Hurdle[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
