My story

[p]In November, 2014, I was involved in a mountaineering accident on Cam Crag Ridge in the Lake District. It was a terrifying and humbling experience, lasting several hours. The full story is here, but suffice it to say that I temporarily paralysed my left arm, broke my right leg, right collar bone, seven ribs and my back, and then spent 8 hours alone on the mountainside as the rain fell and the night came in. [/p][p]Although my preparations earlier in the day helped me to survive, what absolutely saved my life were the volunteers of Keswick Mountain Rescue Team. They came out to find me in the dark and the rain and took care of me until a helicopter arrived to take me to hospital. I have never been so glad to see anyone as I was when I was discovered by my saviours.[/p][p]It has taken just over three years to have my leg surgically rebuilt and reach the kind of fitness where I can even contemplate some activity to raise funds for KMRT. Together with my friends, Deborah, Dahlia, Ewan, Jonathan, Mike, and my fiancée, Susan, I hope to complete the Coledale and Newlands horseshoes in under 12 hours. The route is around 20 miles and takes in 11 summits - Grisedale Pike, Hopegill Head, Eel Crag, Sail, Outerside, Catbells, Maiden Moor, High Spy, Dale Head, Hindscarth and Robinson.[/p][p]I can never repay KMRT for my life - and of course, they have no expectation that I will - but I can do something to help them save other lives. I'd be very grateful for your support in this endeavour.[/p][p]Thank you[/p][p]Lyndon[/p]

Your story gave me goosebumps and made me cry ... beautifully written. I always donate to the mountain rescue ... I hope I never need them (obviously!) but want to support them to continue their amazing work. Your strength and determination is admirable
