My story

[p]Wycombe Homeless Connection, a non profit in Buckinghamshire, provides vital services and advice to the local homeless and those who are vulnerably housed. I'm in awe of the scale and breadth of the organisation, the logistical challenges involved in coordinating a large bank of volunteers (I’m one), running the operation from multiple locations (church-based charity), raising awareness about the growing problem of homelessness in the UK, securing professionals who give their time and expertise willingly to help guests and setting up and running fundraising events such as this one, in partnership with Dreams, Wycombe Wanderers and Shrewsbury Town FC.[/p][p]The Night Shelter which runs over the winter months provides respite from the bitter cold and adverse conditions the UK imposes upon us, snow, wind, rain, ice. I’m not good in the cold and my body temperature plummets at night so I’m not exactly looking forward to this (apart from the game, obviously which I’m definitely going to) but it’s a small price to pay, sleeping outside without a tent at Adams Park, High Wycombe, on the terraces at Wycombe Wanderers for just one night on 27th November 2018.[/p][p]The objective: to raise money for the wonderful guests I work with through Wycombe Homeless Connections who will use the funds raised to make service users lives more comfortable and ultimately to get them housed/secure their accommodation which should be a basic human right. It’s a travesty that homelessness still exists in the UK and I look forward to the Government meeting its target of eradicating homelessness by 2027. [/p]
