My story

[p]A message from Barbara’s Revolutionaries:[/p][p]The team would like to thank Sir Elton John and David Furnish and The Elton John Foundation for their generous donation of £5,000.00 paid by cheque offline. "It's such a fantastic cause that you are running the London Marathon for, Scott. We wish you and the team the very best of luck! Love Elton, David, Zachary and Elijah xx"[/p][p]Barbara's Revolutionaries would also like to thank Richard Desmond and The Desmond Foundation for their generous donation of £5,000.00 paid by cheque offline. [/p][p]We would also like to thank every single person who has donated Online to our page. You are all beyond kind and we appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts.[/p][p]Dame Barbara Windsor: a screen icon, national treasure and our beloved friend, whom we first met when working on EastEnders.[/p][p]Barbara was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2014 and has been living with dementia for nearly five years. [/p][p]When Scott Mitchell, Barbara’s husband, announced that he was running the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon for the Dementia Revolution , a year-long charity of the year campaign from Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK, we knew we had to run too! [/p][p]Together we’ve formed a running team known as Barbara’s Revolutionaries. We’re taking a stand against this cruel disease in support of Barbara and everybody affected by dementia, including many of our own family and friends.[/p][p]Scott says:[/p][p]“Dementia can, and does, have a profound effect on daily life. It is heartbreaking for family and friends to watch a loved one struggle with day-to-day life and be slowly stripped of their memories. The same goes for the person living with dementia, who at times can feel confused, disorientated, frustrated and afraid. Sadly it has been no exception for Barbara.”[/p][p]Although almost a million people are living with dementia across the UK, there are still no effective treatments to slow, prevent or cure the diseases that cause it. We want to change this.[/p][p]Barbara made her career entertaining others and has always been there for her fans. We now call upon the public to support us, just as Barbara has always supported them.[/p][p]Stand with us and help us reach our goal of raising £100,000 for the Dementia Revolution.[/p][p]Please give as much as you can spare, every pound helps! All money raised will help fund vital dementia research at the UK Dementia Research Institute. Through research we can, and we will, find a cure for dementia. Please help us.[/p][p]Thank you,[/p][p]Barbara’s Revolutionaries[/p][p](Scott Mitchell, Adam Woodyatt, Jake Wood, Emma Barton, Natalie Cassidy, Kellie Shirley, Tanya Franks, Jamie Borthwick and Jane Slaughter)[/p][p] [/p]

I cared for my mum who passed away from this cruel illness nearly 3 years ago. It took away the person she was but I loved her unconditionally and knew it was the illness and not 'her' that was making life so sad and difficult for me and mum. Good luck!
