My story

[p]In May 2021 John Pinnington and Paul Appleby will be cycling 480 miles between St Davids, Wales and Lowestoft. The ride will see the duo cycling along the route of the Via Beata Pilgrims Route and is set to take seven days. They hope to raise more than £6000 for homelessness charity Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney.[/p][p]Via Beata, when translated, means "Way of Blessing" and the team behind the Pilgrims Route hope to install a way-station at 10 mile intervals between St Davids and Lowestoft, each one offering a place of rest and reflection on an aspect of the life of Jesus through art and sculpture.[/p][p]There are currently 20 way-stations in place, including one of them just a few metres away from the home of Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney at Belsey Bridge, Ditchingham. [/p][p]Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney is a charity which supports people out of homelessness by providing them with a home, meaningful work opportunities, support and training. There is no time limit on this support.[/p][p]As well as enabling the charity to continue the work it does to support up 32 formerly homeless people, the money raised by John and Paul will be used by Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney to investing in new projects. This includes the conversion of some of its beautiful former convent building into a B&B so that people walking or cycling the Via Beata Route will be able to stay on site. This will be staffed by the formerly homeless people supported by the charity, giving them access to hands-on work experience and training in the hospitality sector.[/p][p]To find out more about the Via Beata Pilgrims Route and the journey John and Paul will be taking, please visit www.viabeata.co.uk.
