My story

[p]Hello everyone,[/p][p]I will try and keep this brief, but bear with me. On Friday, July 17th, I am going to embark on an epic, 65 mile 5 day round trip by putting one front in front of the other, composed of laps around my living room - many many times. I returned back to my home of the Isle of Man, where some of you may be aware of the stringent quarantine regulations still in place for returning repatriates; the main rule being that you have to quarantine indoors, with no out of household exercise for a lengthy 14 days. [/p][p]I am currently just over half way in the process, still with another 6 days to go before I can properly breathe Manx air again. With that being said, there’s only so much sitting around on my **** I can do. When I was completing Facebook surveys which determine my personality from my ice cream preferences, enough was enough. Not being able to go for a run was the main mental issue I was facing, until day 5 where I decided I would go for a jog around the sofa. This sparked ideas. I thought I would try and put this spare time to good use, where it’s needed. I decided I would raise money for Prostate Cancer UK. [/p][p]The Prostate is a walnut sized gland located behind the base of a man’s penis, in front of the rectum, and below the bladder. Prostate cancer is marked by an uncontrolled growth of cells in the prostate gland. In most cases, prostate cancer has no symptoms, however in some cases, symptoms include difficulty emptying the bladder, blood in the urine & pain in the bones. [/p][p]Unfortunately as a family, we were dealt a blow in early 2020, discovering our Dad, Stephen was found to have a cancerous growth within prostate and immediate surgery was necessary. The timing was incredibly unideal, given that to Covid-19 numbers were on an exponential rise in UK hospitals. We were all incredibly anxious that this surgery would be delayed to the point where it was too late. Fortunately, at the end of May - Dad had the prostatectomy he needed & fingers crossed that will be the last we see of it. [/p][p]But unfortunately for some, it is sometimes too late - going for regular screenings for Prostate Cancer, or for any cancer for that matter will give you the best chance of identifying the cancer in their early stages, before any irreversible damage is done. The purpose of this, is not only to raise money for the cause - but to get people talking, raise awareness and urge others to have discussions on the matter. Tell your Dads, Uncles & Grandads to go for the odd screening, it may be uncomfortable but it could save a life.[/p][p]I have measured the distance around my DIY homemade circuit which comes to 14m. One half marathon would be circling the area a total of 1500 times, every day for 5 days - totalling 7500 laps. Starting Friday 17th @ 10am I will be filming & uploading time lapses & using my FitBit to track my progress. [/p][p]The rest is up to you. All donations big and small would be greatly appreciated and hopefully we can raise some money and awareness for this worthy cause.[/p][p][br][/p][p]All the best,[/p][p][br][/p][p]Steve [/p][p][br][/p]
