My story

[p]Thanks for visiting this page![/p][p]I have been lucky enough to be selected to take part in the 'Mind 3000s challenge' taking place in May 2015.[/p][p]The challenge consists of walking 50km, climbing the highest mountains in England and repeatedly reaching heights of over 3000ft in under 24 hours.   I will be doing this with Anna Williamson (England Captain) and Matt Johnson(Wales Captain), and 24 others on each team. Together we hope to raise over £50,000 pounds!!![/p][p]Anna's team will tackle the Lakes 3,000s, trekking the four highest mountains (over 3,000ft) in the Lake District over 24 hours including Scafell Pike, with repeated ascents and descents on each mountain.   As if this wasn’t already hard enough, we will be competing against Matt Johnson’s team who’ll be completing a comparable trek in Snowdonia.[/p][p]On a personal level this is going to be hard and without doubt the most demanding thing I will ever do physically. However, living and coping with mental illness' isn't at all easy either. Whether you are able to donate, or just help raise awareness of the amazing work of Mind, any contribution will be greatly appreciated.[/p][p]Mental health is often marginalised in society, ignored and not talked about by many despite 1/4 of the population experiencing mental health problems at some point in their life. The greatest cause of death for Men under 35 is suicide.  [/p][p]Mental Health issues are something I have faced and am still working at to overcome.  To me this challenge is part of my process of recovery by setting little targets to achieve great things and beat the Welsh team.[/p][p]Currently the Mind Info-Line is failing to answer 25% of calls due to a lack of funding. This percentage is increasing. This is something that needs changing. Some of us are lucky enough to have family and friends to support us when we need them, but not everyone is so lucky.  No-one facing mental illness should do so along, the stigmas associated with mental illness must be overcome and to awareness raised for this cause.[/p][p]I am asking for your support to ensure we meet this target, so the Mind info-line can help every single person who desperately need it.[/p][p]Any donations you can add will be spur me on, and be greatly by me and everyone at Mind.[/p]

Matt, I read your story on the MIND website. I too have mental health issues. I think what you went through was incredibly tough but your journey to recovery is inspiring. Go for it!!
