Team story

[p]I will be attempting to run from John O’Groats to Lands End, along a 1000 mile (1,609km) route snaking across the UK, in 20 consecutive days. I will be covering an average of 50 miles a day and by the time I reach Lands End I will have completed 38.5 marathons, or three hundred and twenty two 5K runs. I am estimating, based on previous experience, that I will be spending roughly 14 hours a day on the road, notching up a total of 280 hours running and burning more than 111,000 calories. The primary goal of this run is to raise as much money as possible for my two selected charities, Alzheimer’s Society and Help for Heroes, but I am also hopeful that my personal challenge will provide the backdrop to a bigger fundraising effort from people joining in along the way. I am looking to organise a series of mass participation 5K races en route, including York, Milton Keynes and London. The entry fee for these races will be minimal and all proceeds will be evenly split between my two chosen charities. I am encouraging participants to raise sponsorship of their own, for the charities of their choice. Similarly, anybody who wishes to join me for more than 5 kilometres- be it 10K, a half marathon, marathon or even a full day, I will be encouraging to jump on the fundraising bandwagon. The power of a mass fundraising effort is far greater than any solo challenge that I could dream up and I am convinced that this could provide a unique opportunity to do some good. In the process, we may also inspire a few people to get up off their sofa and do some exercise, which in my eyes can only be a good thing.[/p]
