My story

[p]Hello my name is Ian and I’m aiming to complete a succession of my families favourite walks through the Yorkshire Dales covering a total of just over 100 miles. I’m attempting to complete these walks in my off road wheelchair aided and guided by my beautiful spaniel Nealla, accompanied by my family and incredible friends, in aid of Saint Michael’s Hospice and the MND Association.[/p][p][br][/p][p]As a family, my wife Rachael, my two beautiful teenage daughters and myself are living with MND following my diagnosis in early 2019. [/p][p][br][/p][p]Motor Neurone Disease is a cruel disease for which there is no treatment or cure with 50% of sufferers sadly dying within the first 2 years of diagnosis. These are some of the unfortunate facts and therefore formed a large part of the conversation we had to have with our daughters when we first broke the news. With the critical help and support of the MND Association, Saint Michael’s Hospice and the fantastic care provided by the specialist MND Team in Leeds, my family maintained its sense of fun, our sense of mischief and our wonderful ability to laugh with each other. We are now over 2 years further on and whilst my mobility, dexterity and respiratory functions are failing, my sense of humour, my sense of adventure and my desire to be childish and irresponsible remains intact.[/p][p][br][/p][p]The emotional, physical and practical support provided by the wonderful people within Saint Michael’s Hospice, the MND Association and the amazing MND Team lead by Dr Jung in Leeds is nothing short of inspiring and incredibly humbling. They have been with us every step of the way and have helped us overcome any and every obstacle with their compassion, expertise and kindness. [/p][p][br][/p][p]And this is where you come in, we really need your help. We would be incredibly grateful for each and every donation to help us raise much needed funds for these exceptional and extraordinary people who were there at the beginning of our journey and I know, will be there at the end.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Thank you,[/p][p]Ian and Rachael xx[/p]
