Hugh, Tom and Craig have listed below the causes they will be raising money for, while Chris has had to drop out through injury he will still be supporting the boys on the walk.[/p][p][br][/p][p]As a group of Reading fans we thought what could we do that would be a challenge that we could relate to football. Then we wondered would it be possible to walk from full time of one match to make it for kick off for the following game, obviously it had to be a long distance to make it a real challenge so we decided on a pair of fixtures in March. Upon the conclusion of our fixture against Stoke City at the Madejski Stadium on 14th March 2020, the lads will be on their way to Pride Park for the Royals’ next game - Derby County. The total distance is 119 miles it wont be easy but we're all supporting worthy causes and hopefully we can make it to at least see Reading pick up a point, read below for our stories on which charities we're all supporting[/p][p][br][/p][p]Hugh's Story:[/p][p]For this charity walk, I will be supporting MS-UK. For those who don't know, MS is short for Multiple Sclerosis, an autoimmune condition that affects the central nervous system, in which currently there is no cure. Today, there are 107,000 people in the UK living with MS. MS-UK provides support to these people, empowering them to live healthier and happier lives. MS-UK seeks to improve the understanding of the disease and provide support where it is needed the most. I chose to represent MS-UK because of the impact it has had on my family. Recently, my wife's grandmother passed away after long battle with MS. In her memory, I kindly ask you to donate to help those with MS to be able to lead a more comfortable life.[/p][p]Chris' Story:[/p][p]Prostate Cancer UK is a charity that has real meaning to me, I am proud to walk for them from Reading to Derby. A member of my family was diagnosed last year and whilst it is treatable, it doesn’t take away the shock of finding out. One in eight men in the UK is diagnosed with prostate cancer and risk is higher based on ethnicity, age and family history. I will be putting one foot forward to supporting research, walking for anyone who has or has a family member who has been affected by Prostate Cancer. Together we can win the battle against cancer.[/p][p]Craig's Story:[/p][p]With honour I will be participating in this challenge to walk from Reading to Derby for Cancer Research UK – My tribute to the charity is to thank them for their knowledge and resources which have raised awareness of many forms of cancer at different stages. Thanks to Cancer Research we have broadened our understanding such as ‘Today 1 in 2 people across the UK will get Cancer in their lifetime’. The charity continues to work alongside medical professionals to make life more bearable for those diagnosed through face to face visits and 24/7 support. Cancer has tested my family, friends and my sporting heroes and shockingly I’ve learned it does not matter how comfortable or stable your family member or friend may seem, cancer can take anybody. Cancer has succeeded in taking away time with my loved ones but thankfully it has also faltered. The strength I have seen in these people diagnosed with cancer is remarkable – Without Cancer Research I don’t think we would have happier news to report - The least I can do is now walk for those currently fighting the biggest battle of their lives. Any support you can give to this worthy cause shall be appreciated.[/p][p]Tom's Story:[/p][p]I will be representing Mind on the 106 Chat charity walk, and to briefly explain the work of my selected charity ?— ?Mind is there to support you through all mental health related struggles, carrying their work out through the means of therapy, counselling, or simply just being people you can pick up the phone and dial for some advice regarding current mental struggles. It’s really difficult to do the charity justice through the means of a paragraph but with damning statistics such as that of one in four people in the UK will have experienced a mental health problem in the past year, it’s vital that both the right amount of exposure and respect is given to such a great organisation that really is representing something that has for far too long been stigmatised.[/p][p][br][/p][p]All donations will be split equally between the 4 charities, thank you for reading and donating[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p]
