My story

[p]Hi, thanks for visiting my page. [/p][p]In 2015 I had a baby, turned 40 and was diagnosed with a brain tumour it was a life changing few weeks for our family. [/p][p]I was then diagnosed with hydrocephalus and a chiari malformation just because a brain tumour wasn't enough of a scare.[/p][p]In the end I spent 5-6 weeks in The Walton centre and in that time I had 3 brain surgeries, my rock of a husband shaved my head, I battled meningitis and tried to be a first time brand new mum from my hospital bed. [/p][p]Fast forward I now have hydrocephalus and a VP shunt (and an almost 6 year old) and I thank my lucky stars every single day. [/p][p]Our neurological story did not end there with my brain shenanigans..... Our daughter Amelia has her own special brain. She has global development, epilepsy and is non verbal (so far). Despite or maybe because of this she spreads joy wherever she is (biased mum) but she does. [/p][p]She struggled to walk but did it. I struggled to walk after my 1st brain surgery but did it. I appreciate my legs and the ability to use them every single day because some people with our neurological conditions are not as lucky. So what better way to celebrate life, beautiful and mircaulous brains and legs by completing the Virtual London Marathon. [/p][p]I am still under the tumour clinic at Walton and I have regular MRis to check for tumour regrowth. I also attend the hydrocephalus clinic there. [/p][p]Thanks to covid there is a virtual London Marathon..... that means on the day of the London marathon I go out there like everyone else but I can do it anywhere in the world and I have 24 hours to complete the full marathon distance (26.2 miles). Anyone who knows me knows when I do something I am all in so I am going to spend the next 7 months training so I can get this done in an OK time for a total novice. My plan is to run as much of it as I can but I am happy to walk (or crawl too). [/p][p]We have picked 3 charities to split donation money:[/p][p]The Brain Charity [/p][p]They support families like ours for ALL neurological conditions so things like ADHD, ADD, alzeimer's, aneurysm, angelman syndrome (at one point they thought Amelia might have she remains undiagnosed), Arnold-Chiari malformation, asperger's, autism, brain injuries, brain tumour, cerebral palsy, dementia, down's syndrome, dyscalculia, dyslexia, epilepsy, fragile x syndrome (another one Amelia was checked for), hydrocephalus, long covid, lupus, M.S., meningitis, motor neurone disease, obsessive compulsive disorder, parkinson's, prader-willi syndrome, spina bifida, stroke, tourette syndrome.... and many many others.[/p][p]Personally they also provided me with invaluable counselling for free and helped me put back the pieces of my brain. [/p][p][br][/p][p]The Walton Centre[/p][p].....well that is a no brainer (pun intended) they saved my life, they kept our family together and they do that day in day out for countless families (last time when I did a sponsored head shave from my hospital bed I helped raise £1322 for Walton and I'd love to send more their way. [/p][p]Brain Tumour Support[/p][p]Who provide specialist services to people, families, carers and anyone whose lives are affected by brain tumours. In my recovery they really helped me focus on positives with events like bandanas for brain tumours.[/p][p]I know especially right now times are hard but if you could please donate anything (no amount is too little and every single penny counts). If you can't donate please please share so I can reach as many people as possible. [/p][p]I will bore you all with my training over the next 7 months so turn me off on Facebook if you've had enough I will not be offended. [/p][p]If you got this far thank you so much..... now the donating bumf.....[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
