Team story

[p]On the 7th of April James and Ben will be heading out to the Sahara desert, their aim - to compete in the 32nd Marathon des Sables.[/p][lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="overflow: hidden; height: 1px; width: 1px; position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px;"[gt]James and Ben are doing the 32nd Marathon des Sables from 7th April to 17th April 2017. [lt]/div[gt][lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="overflow: hidden; height: 1px; width: 1px; position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px;"[gt]To prepare for the event and maximize our fund raising efforts we are completing 12 months of training and endurance events. The hope is to raise awareness for our chosen charity ‘1morechild’ and bring together friends, family and colleagues to take part in events and cast our fundraising net as far as possible.[lt]/div[gt][lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="overflow: hidden; height: 1px; width: 1px; position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px;"[gt]Events will include cycle races, relays, Triathlons, ‘Tough Mudders’ and Ultra events like ‘The Race to the Stones’ and ‘The Atlantic Coast Challenge’. [lt]/div[gt][lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="overflow: hidden; height: 1px; width: 1px; position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px;"[gt]While we both have a good appetite for exercise, neither of us are built for distance running. Ben is a 6’5” former rower and James is a 6’4” former rugby player, so the challenge is to get our bodies conditioned to endurance running and tailor our diets to prepare for the limited calories available during the race. [lt]/div[gt][lt]div id="_mcePaste" style="overflow: hidden; height: 1px; width: 1px; position: absolute; left: -10000px; top: 0px;"[gt]Our chosen charity is 1morechild, an NGO set-up by Harry & Hen Ferdinando in 2008 to help home and educate street children in Jinja, Uganda. 100% of all donations will go straight towards the running of 11 childrens’ homes, school fees, 3 meals a day, school uniforms, school supplies, shoes, clothes, medical care, tutoring, mentoring, and the football club.[lt]/div[gt][lt]p style="text-align: center;"[gt][span=text-decoration: underline;]250km :: 6 days :: Sahara Desert[/span][/p][p]While we both have a good appetite for exercise, neither of us are built for distance running. Ben is a 6’6” former rower and James is a 6’4” former rugby player - not quite the right build for running across sand dunes. [/p][p]We were both determined that our efforts would have a direct impact on those less fortunate than us, we want to make a real difference. Whilst our suffering is relatively short lived and self inflicted it is easy to forget that many people have to face huge challenges every day of their lives without that choice. With both of us having young children we wanted to raise funds and awareness for children who were suffering.[/p][p]Our chosen charity is 1morechild, an NGO set-up by Harry & Hen Ferdinando in 2008 to help home and educate street children in Jinja, Uganda. 100% of all donations will go straight towards the running of 11 childrens’ homes, school fees, 3 meals a day, school uniforms, school supplies, shoes, clothes, medical care, tutoring, mentoring, and the football club.[/p][p]Whilst we put ourselves through the training and the toughest foot race on earth, all we ask is that you can make any donation, no matter how big or small - everything counts and is deeply appreciated.[/p][p]Thank you,[/p][p]James and Ben[/p][p] [/p]
