Team story

[p]We would be honoured if you would support us - Joseph Coelho and Manjeet Mann - as we run The London Marathon for the incredible Half Moon, in East London, on Sunday 22 April 2018. As a thank you for sponsoring us, you'll get an exclusive thank you poem by Joseph!![/p][p]Half Moon will use the money you give very wisely. All donations will contribute to their important work helping young people achieve their potential through the power of the arts. [/p][p]Please support us by giving whatever you can and help us reach our target.[/p][p]JOSEPH COELHO[/p][p]When I was 11 I went with my classmates and music teacher to a local play. There was a poster for auditions for Oliver Twist on the wall and without a hint of irony my music teacher turned to me and said, "You should audition for that." So I did what any self-respecting 11 year old would do, I insisted that my best friend David audition with me! We got in and we had a blast as ‘Street Urchins 1 and 2’. Over the years the Youth Theatre at Group 64 in Putney became an important place for me - it's where I grew in confidence and found a love of theatre; it opened the door to acting and performance and my career as a writer. [/p][p]Around four years ago I found that I was restless, my books were taking-off and I was spending increasingly more time at home writing, whilst this was a dream come true I found I had a need-to-perform-itch that only theatre could scratch. Half Moon Theatre have provided me and many other solo artists with the support necessary to get our work in front of an audience. The Half Moon Presents Portfolio gives professional artists a very real platform to create and share work of award winning standards. [/p][p]I find it deeply satisfying to have such a strong relationship with a theatre that has such a wonderful Youth theatre tradition, in many ways it feels like coming home. I know that the experiences that they offer the young people in their many youth theatre offers will create the artists of the future. It's for these reasons that I am running The London Marathon for Half Moon Theatre, it's a small way that I can support their amazing work with young people in East London and nationally through the work they help realise that tours continually up and down the country to theatres, libraries, schools and community spaces. They are ceaseless in their commitment to take theatre to new audiences. [/p][p]MANJEET MANN[/p][p]Oh I do love running a marathon! I'm at it again and this time I'm running for the WONDERFUL Half Moon Young Peoples Theatre. [/p][p]Theatre for children is vital. I've been involved in many shows for young people, so I know first hand how important it is. It fires the imagination, it gives children the skills and the creativity necessary to face the world, to understand it and perhaps to change it too. Half Moon creates brilliant and important work and I'm passionate about raising as much money as I can for them.[/p][p]Half Moon will use the money you give very wisely. All donations will contribute to the important work which helps young people achieve their potential through the power of the arts.[/p][p]Please help us do that by giving whatever you can to get us to our target.[/p][p]WHY HALF MOON NEED YOUR HELP[/p][p] Over 53% of children in Tower Hamlets live in poverty (after housing costs) according to End Child Poverty campaign figures published in January 2018. This is almost 10% higher than the next local authority on the list. Please help Half Moon continue their important work with young people across Tower Hamlets in nurseries, schools, colleagues and community and youth organisations, using drama to enable lives.[/p][p]Find out more about Half Moon and the wonderful work they do at www.halfmoon.org.uk[/p]
