Team story

[p]Hi all,[/p][p]Katie and Simon have decided to sign up to run 44 miles along the South West Coastal Path from Lizard Point to Land's End. This will involve over 5,000ft of ascent (and no doubt descent) and probably 10+hours of our lives. Part of our training involved running the Brighton Marathon on 17th April, with Katie beating me easily in a time of 3hrs 42mins!![/p][p]Why are we taking on this challenge? We wanted to challenge ourselves to complete this event and as a motivational aid raise money for two chairties close to our hearts. Rather than raise money seperately, we are hoping that you will not mind supporting us with your donations being split 50/50 between our two charities. [/p][p]Our first charity is Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Support UK. A family friend lost her son Joshua to Type 1 SMA at 5 months. His family were obviously dumbfounded by his passing as he was born a healthy and happy boy and his illness struck with horrible speed and gave them no time to rationalise (if that is ever possible) the situation. SMA Support UK offered Joshua's parents invaluable support and were able to help give them time to talk and communicate their feelings with an informed and understanding party. We are hoping that in providing your donations, we will be able to raise money to fund the charity's outreach and support services and significantly a large chunk of the annual cost of funding for their SMA Patient Registry. This Registry is helping to find patients that are able to match clincial trials being used to help develop medicines to improve care for those affected by SMA. More information on SMA and specifically on Joshua himself, can be found at: http://www.smasupportuk.org.uk/joshua[/p][p]Our second charity is the St Giles Parents Association. The St Giles School (http://www.st-gilesschool.co.uk/) in Croydon is a community school for children with physical disabilities and complex medical needs. Adam, the son of one of Katie and my clients attended St Giles and thoroughly enjoyed his time at the school. Adam unfortunately passed away in September 2014. As Adam loved his time at St Giles and was so happy there, we are looking to raise money to help fund a flet of specially adapted bicycles to cater for the different needs of all of this children, which will provide further enjoyment to the current and future pupils at this wonderful school.[/p][p]We hope that you are willing to support us and any donation will be incredibly well received by our charities and will no doubt ensure that Katie and I get around the "course" on 11th June. [/p][p]Thanks a lot in advance. Katie and Simon[/p]
