My story
[p]Hi everyone[/p][p]I’m taking on the challenge of running 44 races/runs throughout 2019 in aid of Worldwide Cancer Research. [/p][p]Why? - 44 people lose their life every day in Scotland because of cancer[/p][p]The charity also turns 40 this year so it’s a fitting way to mark the occasion and raise vital funds. I’m aiming to run at least five half marathons as part of the challenge so I have a lot of miles to cover![/p][p]Completed runs so far – 44/44 runs (472km distance covered) - 0 runs to go![/p][p]Run the Blades half - Really tough, monster hills, but scenic and really enjoyable[/p][p]Aviemore half marathon - Really scenic run and thankfully my ankle recovered in time to run[/p][p]Great North Run - A tough course, but an amazing half marathon with terrific support on the course. It was a privilege to run for such a great cause. I had a good run, but damaged a tendon in my ankle so plenty of rest required.[/p][p]Why am I doing this?[/p][p]1 in 2 people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. Everybody is affected by cancer. We’ve all seen loved ones suffer from this terrible disease. It's vital to support more research and I'd like to do my bit.[/p][p]Worldwide Cancer Research is a brilliant Scottish charity that has had a significant global impact. The charity has funded research projects that have helped twice as many people survive cancer after diagnosis. That means survival rates have doubled in the 40 years since its foundation.[/p][p]With 44 people dying every day from cancer in Scotland alone, there is still so much work to be done. I’d like to do something to help our loved ones, in memory of those who lost their battle and for the growing number of people being diagnosed worldwide.[/p][p]I'm also acutely aware of how running benefits my health and wellbeing. This is a great incentive to maintain my fitness, stay injury free and to keep focused on a positive goal that benefits a great cause.[/p][p]Every penny counts, so please donate what you can[/p][p]Please make a donation and help me raise as much as I can for life-saving cancer research. The charity relies entirely on donations so your help will make a real difference.[/p][p]List of races and runs:[/p][p]1. 3000m BRR track race – Complete[/p][p]2.
