My story

[p]Hi, thanks for visiting our page. [/p] [p]I am running the Edinburgh Marathon on May 27th. This is my first marathon.[/p] [p]I am raising money for SOFT UK in memory of my son Toby Robert Smith. He was born with the condition Trisomy 13 and was with us for 83 hours and 54 mins. Toby was so beautiful and brave and is an inspiration to us all. Our lives were devastated by Tobys death, however we are so proud our our amazing son. He is very much part of our family.[/p][p]Toby is my inspiration to run. I started running, just last year in April and raised money for SANDS by doing the British 10k in London. I have since done other 10k races and one half marathon. Now for the big one. Together with Toby, I shall do it :)[/p] [p]SOFT UK is a charity that helps those affected by trisomy 13/18, providing support at the diagnosis of the condition and the related issues.[/p][p]SOFT UK is a very small charity run by volunteers only. No-one takes a wage. Your donation will make a direct and massive difference.[/p][p]Toby was one of only 28 live births of trisomy 13 in 2006. [/p] [p]Toby Robert Smith 3/1/06-7/1/06[/p] [p]Please help by making a donation or advertising this page. Thanks. Every penny will make a difference to this charity. Thank you.[/p][p][span=color: #008000;]Saturday 26th May. Today I leave for Edinburgh. Feeling very emotional, nervous and excited. I'm going to miss Sarah, Amelia and Oliver for the next 3 days. They have been so supportive and wonderful xxx. [/span][/p][p][span=color: #008000;]Amount raised stands at £952. Just £48 to get to £1000, which would be truely amazing. I'm overwhelmed. Thank you. See you in Edinburgh![/span][/p][p][span=color: #ff0000;][b]27th May 2012. Marathon completed!!! My time was 3hours 57mins 01secs. So happy :) more to follow[/b][/span][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;]So here we are, 7 days until my marathon!! My marathon journey started in Jan 2012. I started to increase my training, with longer runs and more sessions.[/span][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;]Throughout Feb my training consisted of long runs at the weekend and shorter sessions during the week. Unfortunatley I struggled with an achilles tendon problem and foot injury and was advised to totally rest for at least 2 weeks.[/span][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;]At the start of March I did a lot of gym work as I was unable to run, but got back running around mid March and built my distances back up again.[/span][/p] [p][span=color: #0000ff;]April was my big month! I felt stronger and so pushed on with the running. My first 20 mile run was completed on the 14th April in 2h55m32s. A big milestone for any runner. This was followed up with an 18 miler and finally my longest run of 22 miles on 28th April. During April long midweek runs of 10 miles were also done! No fun! And it was wet and cold!![/span][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;]On the 5th May our target of £500 was achieved. Thank you to all my sponsors. Its so inspirational seeing the donations come in. 10th May saw the taper period where distances start to ease off and its more about recovery ready for the race. Struggling with a foot problem again! The other foot this time. Hopefully the taper period will help to sort it out. [/span][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;]Hard work has been done with o[/span][span=color: #0000ff;]ver 380 miles of training. Climbed 52000ft and burnt 47000 calories![/span][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;]Just 26.2miles to run now!!! I have my race number. Train and accomodation is booked. All systems go! Under 4 hours is the target. It will be quite an achievement :)[/span][/p][p][span=color: #0000ff;]Keep donating please and thanks :)[/span][/p]
