She developed her first symptoms on 19th March 2007, and remained reasonably well for the first couple of days.  But she then became extremely unwell and agitated, finally being admitted to hospital on 24th March 2007, her first birthday.[/span][lt]/span[gt][/div][div=font-size: 17px; -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(130, 98, 83, 0.0980392); text-decoration: -webkit-letterpress;][span=color: #0000ff;][lt]span style="color: #006fc9; font-family: Calibri, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;"[gt][lt]br /[gt][/span][lt]/span[gt][/div][div=font-size: 17px; -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(130, 98, 83, 0.0980392); text-decoration: -webkit-letterpress;][span=color: #800000;][lt]span style="color: #d05c12; font-family: Calibri, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;"[gt]She spent a week in the High Dependency Unit at The Royal Berks, becoming progressively more unwell, to the point where it became necessary to sedate her. She was then transferred by the Children's Acute Transport Service (CATS) ambulance to the PICU at St Mary's Hospital.  Grace died three and a half weeks later, on 24th April 2007.[/span][lt]/span[gt][/div][div=font-size: 17px; -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(130, 98, 83, 0.0980392); text-decoration: -webkit-letterpress;][span=color: #800000;][lt]span style="color: #d05c12; font-family: Calibri, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;"[gt][lt]br /[gt][/span][lt]/span[gt][/div][div=font-size: 17px; -webkit-composition-fill-color: rgba(130, 98, 83, 0.0980392); text-decoration: -webkit-letterpress;][span=color: #333399;][lt]span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"[gt][lt]span style="color: #757b80; font-family: Calibri, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;"[gt]At St Mary's, Grace was looked after by a committed team of PICU medics who were prepared to use a multitude of innovative treatments to give Grace the best chance of recovery. It was discovered after her death that Grace was missing a large piece of Chromosome 7 which included a gene that controls a critical stage of the immune system response. Her immune system was able to recognise the virus, but couldn't bridge the gap between recognition and elimination of the virus.   Ultimately, without the means to fight the chicken pox virus herself, Grace's condition continued to deteriorate, despite everyone's tireless efforts to facilitate recovery.[/span][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][/div][div=font-size: 17px;
