My story

[p]Thank you for visiting this page... firstly I am not a runner and have never enjoyed running unless I have been distracted by a ball and some form of game. [lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]Having watched and cheered on family and friends whilst they took on the London Marathon challenge (especially Lee last year, who just smiled all the way round, despite being told by the doctor not to do it !), you cannot fail to be inspired by the thousands taking part and the hundreds of thousands who come out to support. I am a proud Londoner and Marathon day is one of the best days in the capital for atmosphere and community spirit. [lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]I have always said if I was lucky enough to be selected in the ballot I would do my best to survive running 26 and a bit miles.[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]After many years of being in the 'lucky' rejected pile, this year despite another rejection VLM took pity on me and gifted me a place.[lt]br /[gt][lt]br /[gt]As I am not tied to raise an amount of money for a single charity I have decided to split the money I raise to several charities that I have supported previously, and a couple of others whose work have inspired me recently.[/p][ul][li]Prostate Cancer UK- in memory of my Uncle Eric, who sadly passed away last year, a sportsman and true gentleman, This charity is doing great work to reduce the amount of men who die each year from this disease through awareness and provides vital information and support.[/li][/ul][p][/p][ul][li]The Barts Charity and specifically the Chris Dobbs Leukaemia fund (SPF SPF1011)- in memory of Sarah Hammond. Our friends and family have raised over £50,000 in the 20 years since Sarah passed away in a road accident aged 24.  Sarah was a runner and a coach who regularly raised money for the charity.[/li][/ul][p][/p][ul][li]AMMF- in memory of Nick Francis, a friend and colleague who was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) four weeks before he passed away in 2014 aged 33. AMMF is the only UK charity which focuses on this form of cancer, raising awareness and supporting research in to methods of earlier diagnosis and treatments. Friends and colleagues have raised over £6000 for AMMF in Nicks memory to date. Nick, like me applied in the Marathon ballot annually and I am hoping his spirit will keep me going until the finish line.[/li][/ul][p][/p][ul][li]ACLT- as a thank you to their hard work and dedication to the cause of providing hope to the patients living with blood cancer, or other illnesses where a matched donor is required to save a life. When Tommy Simpson, the brave 5 year old child of our friends Nigel and Maxine was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, ACLT launched the #match4Tommy campaign to find a stem cell donor. Against all odds a donor match was found, Tommy has since responded well to his treatment but should Tommy relapse, a lifeline is now there for him if he needs it. Tommy’s Mum Maxine is running as well and hopefully a bit more support will give her a well deserved boost.[/li][/ul][p][/p][ul][li]Leukaemia Care- A close friend was recently diagnosed with Leukaemia and his attitude to this life changing news has been inspiring. He is raising money for this national blood cancer support charity that ensure anyone affected by blood cancer receives the right information, advice and support at this vital time. A contribution from my sponsorship will go towards his efforts in raising some money to thank those providing support.[/li][/ul][p]Thank you for taking the time to read, and I am grateful for your support, I am going to need every form of inspiration going to get me to the end![/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p]Andrew[/p]
