My story

[p]Thank you for visiting our team's fundraising page for the 2019 London Legal sponsored walk. We're taking on 10K for justice on the 17th June.[/p][p]Our team is: Mariana D'Arcadia, Lilly Barritt, Kat Lorenz, Marie-Anne Fishwick, Mark Rogers, David Garratt, Mike Spencer, Lorna Barron[/p][p]We are walking with the Lord Chief Justice and thousands of lawyers to raise funds for the Asylum Support Appeals Project[/p][p]ASAP is a national charity that works to defend the legal rights of asylum seekers and refused asylum seekers, some of the most vulnerable people living in the UK today. We do this through a three pronged approach:[/p][p]· Through our duty scheme ASAP provides free legal representation to people appearing before the First Tier Tribunal on Asylum Support, appealing decisions to refuse or discontinue financial support and accommodation.[/p][p]· ASAP shares its expertise in asylum support issues with the refugee sector through running an advice line three times a week and organising online and face to face training sessions.[/p][p]· Through policy research, lobbying and litigation ASAP influences government policy to improve the situation of people living on asylum support.[/p][p]Many of the people we help have been forced to leave their home countries and have come to the UK to seek safety. Many are legally entitled to support from the state but claiming these rights can be difficult when faced with an unfamiliar and often intimidating system. Through supporting people in their asylum support appeals ASAP makes a real difference – the majority of the decisions to refuse or discontinue support get overturned on appeal when an ASAP advocate represents, meaning that people can access accommodation or support rather than facing destitution.[/p][p]The funds we raise through participating in the London Legal Walk 2019 will enable us to continue this work fighting for the rights of some of the most vulnerable people in our society.[/p][p]Please support our walkers as generously as you are able[/p][p]Many thanks for your support[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
