My story

[p]21st of November 2017 the day my life changed forever. My big brother my hero kirk James Mclaughlin took his own life due too a long dark road off PTSD and depression. My brother served his queen and country serving in the 3rd battalion the parachute regiment completing tours in Northern Ireland and Afghanistan. My brother was a kind caring loving man always smiling and anyone who knew him and my family will know how close we was and how sadly he is missed everyday. From a young boy I was always the one who never did any exercise always over weight but having a brother who was a paratrooper and watching him everyday what he did I set myself a goal too get fit and I knew that if I could be half the man he was I would be happy and I knew he would be proud of me too because he was always there watching over me helping me through because I was his little boy as he used too say. Unfortunately my brother suffered an injury during a jump, that along with other mental health issues he was medically discharged from the army leaving him feeling very depressed. He needed a purpose something too doo so he took up art which he was extremely good at exhibiting paintings in galleries and also winning an award shortly before he took his own life back in November last year. Kirk had a major hip operation that he never really recovered from and from this it was a downwards spiral and things went from worse too worse I watched him rapidly deteriorate and there was nothing that I could doo apart from just support him the only way I knew how “love”. [/p][p]what an amazing charity SSAFA is they helped my brother kirk through some dark times funding courses and helping too buy furniture for his flat, bed, cooker etc without these things kirk would have had many other worries and would have made his life a lot harder too live after he left the army I thank this charity and all the donators because without them I don’t think I would have had as much time and memories spent with my beautiful brother. not long before my brother died I had a conversation saying too him how amazing it would be too one day doo the marathon together especially because now I was loving my training and lost lots off weight. he said he would have loved too but could not because off his hip. I knew then in my head that I would one day doo the marathon for him because he couldn’t. [/p][p]Soo here I am ready and raring too run the London marathon in aid off SSAFA too give something back too this amazing charity for what they did for my brother kirk James Mclaughlin too help other soldiers, vets like him live a better life soo they doo not have too struggle in times off need it’s the least we can doo for people that give their today for our tomorrow. He truly was my hero and I miss him everyday there is an emptiness in my heart. Xxxx[/p][p]Running in memory of kirk James mclaughlin died aged 36 [/p][p]21/11/2017 [/p][p]G.STOCK [/p]
