My story

[p]I'm an alumnus of CMC (Christian Medical College), Vellore, India's premier Medical Missionary institution.[/p][p]Friends of Vellore UK, (FOV, UK) is a UK based charity that supports various activities of the CMC hospital and outlying projects. One such is the Low Cost Effective Care Unit (LCECU) that treats the poor by combining excellent diagnostic and therapeutic skills with minimal investigation.[/p][p]I have run 2 London marathons in 2018 and 2019 to raise money for a housing charity in London. This time I run for a cause based in a town that I love and visit often. I hope to appeal to each of the alumni based in UK to donate generously as this is the first time that FOV have embarked on this line of fund raising. I have set my target high as I want my giving to be a suitable offering to the 'Home of a healing God'.[/p][p]For those who have been touched by CMC where a chapel is the centre of the hospital, they know what I'm talking about.[/p][p]For those who would like to know more, I hope to include pictures and information soon. https://friendsofvellore.org/projects/low-cost-effective-care-unit/[/p][p]A little clip from you tube on LCECU [/p][p]https://youtu.be/GdDrbCLVxd4[/p][p]Thank you for alumni --Dr Koshy and Lalitha for the generous donation and Renol Koshy for donating and being kind enough to find and wish me luck. Its your good wishes and prayers that will sustain me into reaching a satisfactory conclusion to the physical and financial ends of London Marathon 2020. that's a cool £150/- with the gift aid and pushed me to 9% of the target of £20,000.00[/p][p]Mention must also be made of my seniors-Drs Pramod Hansdak and Easterine Mills-Clarke along with my old friend Harry Thangaraj with George my son, who kindly contributed £91/-through a Facebook Birthday collection.[/p][p]Koshy and Usha are the big individual donors to date , Koshy is a businessman and Usha is a Nursing alumnus. The generosity and big heart is gratefully acknowledged.[/p][p]further to a recent discussion at the recent UK Alumni meet for CMC--[/p][p]these notes might be helpful if you declare charitable giving on your tax return[/p][p] If you pay tax above the basic rate, you can claim the difference between the rate you pay and basic rate on your donation. It’s the same if you live in Scotland.[/p][p] Example[/p][p] You donate £100 to charity - they claim Gift Aid to make your donation £125. You pay 40% tax so you can personally claim back £25.00 (£125 x 20%).[/p][p]really chuffed that my batchmate 'Lala' Dr Rajiv Agarwal has contributed and adds to contributions from Dr Joel Almeida, Dr Ebenezer Daniel and Dr Pankaj Srivastava, from the 73 batch--thank you, it means a lot to me.[/p][p]Dr Sunil and Indu Zachariah are the key people behind the recent best attendance at CMC alumni reunion ,UK at Coventry.Their generous contribution to help reach the FOV target is gratefuly acknowledged.[/p][p]PRAISE GOD. ELIUD KIPCHOGE HAS SHOWN THAT 26.2MILES CAN BE RUN UNDER 2 HOURS.[/p][p]Ashok's thoughtful contribution calculated by the mile is something to think about while I go mile by mile.[/p][p]Returning from a trip to India, very happy to note the significant donations from my batchmates Sunny and Geetha-most of the CMC family know them.Geetha (Geetha Bhaktaviziam) was a good dancer and Sunny (Abraham Joseph)a very capable sportsman.[/p][p]Asha who gave the effort a significant boost with her donation,is well known ,more so among the UK alumni as a consultant surgeon and has been an FOV trustee. Thank you for helping the fund get to 12% of the target amount.[/p][p][br][/p][p] [/p][p][br][/p]
