Team story

[p]Mission: To perform an awareness and charity fundraising Act of Remembrance on Everest Base Camp in recognition of those veterans past and present who have served, those who live with the consequences of their service, and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of our freedoms.[/p][p]In October 2018 the expedition team will route through Kathmandu, before flying into Lukla airport in the Khumbu Region of the Himalayas. From there the gruelling expedition properly starts…16 back-to-back of hard, oxygen-deprived trekking to reach Everest Base Camp at 5,364 meters altitude. Where, in accordance with tradition and overlooked by the highest mountain on Earth, an Act of Remembrance will be performed at 11am GMT on Sunday 11th November 2018. A ceremony made all the more poignant by commemorating the centenary year of Armistice Day in November 1918.[/p][p]We will, all being well, engage with the Royal Gurkha Rifles in some form or other in Nepal, and hope they will play a substantive part in this remarkable endeavor. In itself, recognizing often-forgotten sacrifices made by those from the Commonwealth who fought, and continue to serve, alongside us. [/p][p]The expedition represents both the Armed Forces veteran community through James (ex-Army, medically discharged due to injured), and the medical community through Charlotte. Something reflected through their choice of charities of The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) charities…both mean a huge amount to them, and perform truly life altering work with funds raised.[/p][p]James and Charlotte are funding the trip itself, so any donations are heading straight to these two extraordinary charities in equal measure. Please do give all you feel able to, as we hope this expedition will be able to make a meaningful difference, both through the moneys raised and the awareness generated for the casues.[/p][p]THANK YOU.[/p][p]James and Charlotte[/p]
