My story

[p]Some of you will already know that I'm a keen runner, and some of you will find the news somewhat surprising, to say the least. Anyway, I've been running for a few years now and have run quite a number of 10k races and five half marathons.[/p][p]But this is my first marathon, and I'll be honest, it's pretty scary. It's 26 miles 385 yards or 42.195 KM and that's a hell of a long way. It's twice as far as I've ever ran in a race before, and it'll be longer and further than I've ever run ever, even in training. I've thrown myself across the line of half marathons before, half dead (see picture). Now I've got to do that twice.[/p][p]Training is going pretty well (touch wood) so far, and I've got three targets. The first is to finish, the second to finish under four hours, and the third to finish under 3:45. [/p][p]I'm raising money for Crohn's and Colitis UK. See my gallery for an infographic for more details, but the short version is that they're pretty grim illnesses. Crohn's Disease pretty much wiped out my first year at university, and I've since have to have major abdominal surgery, which was about as much fun as it sounds. I've been lucky enough to enjoy good health for the last few years, and this is a great time to try to raise a bit of money at the same time as fulfilling a childhood ambition of running a full marathon.[/p][p]Crohn's and Colitis UK is a fantastic charity which funds research, runs local support groups, runs support lines, and creates resources for patients, families, and teachers/employers. Their work with and for newly-diagnosed patients is particularly vital.  [/p][p]I'd be really grateful for any support you can offer.[/p]
