My story

[p]Well, here we go! As you may have seen in the news, the London Marathon won’t be taking place as usual this year. But not to worry because we can still run the 26.2 miles remotely. And I will still be raising money for The Farming Community Network (FCN) by swapping the streets of London for the winding and hilly roads of the Cotwolds, on Sunday 4th October. [/p][p]The life of a farmer is not easy, working long hours, often in isolation, in unpredictable weather. And the recent impact of COVID-19, which has been tough for us all, has been particularly tough on farmers. As key workers they have kept the food on our tables, but still for many, their incomes have fallen.[/p][p]And that is where FCN comes in. Providing practical and pastoral support, the FCN helps farmers with everything from financial difficulties through to more personal issues including long-term illness and accidents. Their work cannot be overstated, so I am very happy to be supporting them at this year’s Marathon.[/p][p]And just a little bit about me… It’s been a long journey, I began training for the marathon in July 2019, so it’s safe to say that my knees are starting to feel it now! I once ran a half-marathon (many, many years ago) but a full marathon has always been on my bucket list. And, after watching the thousands of people running every year, I thought I’d better get on and do it. It’s just a shame that I won’t be able to wave to you on TV.[/p][p]I’d just like to say a big thank you in advance for any donation you are able make, and a big thanks to those who have already donated. It really is appreciated.[/p][p]Just in case you wanted something else to read, here's a bit more information: https://fcn.org.uk/blog/2020/08/24/london-marathon-runner-fulfilling-bucket-list-goal-in-support-of-fcn/[/p]
