Team story

[p]On a mild night at the end of October we set out with a small group just after 10pm and for the next 7 1/2 hours we walked through mud, some rather boggy terrains and roadways in support of wildlife charities from cheetahs to hedgehogs.[/p][p]walking to the sounds of tawny and barn owls we covered 30 Kim's through the New Forest, passing deer, horses and ponies who didn't seem bothered by our small band trundling around the area.[/p][p]so thank you to all that have sponsored and supported us. Animals cannot ask for help and support in relation to situations they find themselves because of human conflict, development and ignorance so we hope to give them a voice and aid through this event.[/p][p]3 training walks down so we are hopefully ready for the main event on Saturday night. We even did a spot of off road walking in the dark, although that wasn't entirely intentional![/p][p]In 2012 a minibus arrived at the campsite within the Okonjima wildlife reserve in Namibia. Stepping off that particular bus was the next group of volunteers who were there to help work on the reserve for the following 2 weeks. Amongst this group was Georgina. As she stepped off the bus she saw Andy, they had never met, just spoken via email but both were there to help AfriCat restore some of the reserve to the savannah plains it once was.[/p][p]What neither realised at the time was the impact that this adventure and the friendship that grew from the bext 2 weeks would have. Getting up close to cheetahs, wild dogs, hyaenas, leopards and their prey was just the start.[/p][p]Living out in the bush, sleeping under starlight and working in the reserve was an amazing experience.[/p][p]It's been nearly 5 years since we met over and under sickle bushes, clear skies and surrounded by amazing, yet endangered wildlife but that experience was profound. We have sponsored cheetahs and wild dogs since our return to the UK and kept in touch over our love of wildlife.[/p][p]So what better way to mark the occasion than to take part in a night walk in the New Forest and raise money for the great work AfriCat do to help protect endangered big cats and promote their value as living creatures through education with local communities. Promoting conservation through education is helping local communities live amongst lions, cheetahs, leopards and other large carnivores something we so desperately need the world over.[/p][p]I've grown up not far from the New Forest but walking through it at night provides a unique opportunity to see it in a ver different light. - Andy [/p][p]Thanks for visiting our page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
