My story

[p]Many of our older Wandsworth residents are struggling during this pandemic. This is a difficult time for all of us, but for our older population who are most at risk, having to isolate for a prolonged period can cause additional problems.[/p][p]We are ensuring older Wandsworth residents have the support they need throughout this pandemic:[/p][p]We have created a food bank and are delivering emergency food parcels to those who have no access to food and no-one to support them. The food parcels are made up of food donated by the public and local businesses plus food we have to buy ourselves every day.[/p][p]We have expanded our telephone befriending service to provide regular telephone calls for socially isolated older people.[/p][p]We have launched a new service called 'Active Chats' which offers a friendly telephone call with gentled seated exercise to promote mobility.[/p][p]Our Handyperson service is working to support those coming out of hospital to ensure their home is safe and accessible.[/p][p]Our Information and Advice Service is now available over the telephone to ensure older residents have the money they are entitled to.[/p][p]We have had many more referrals and requests for support since the beginning of the pandemic so any funds we can raise will ensure we can continue to support those that most need our help.[/p][p]Thank you in advance for your generosity.[/p][p][br][/p][p]How else can I help?[/p][p]You can also help by identifying the older people, or those with underlying health conditions, in your community that you might be able to support should they need/wish to self-isolate. This might be doing their shopping, collecting prescriptions or making a regular telephone call to help them feel less isolated and to help reduce anxiety. We are aware of community support groups being set up via social media but please do include those who might not be on-line.[/p][p] [/p]
