My story

[p]Thank you for visiting our team's fundraising page for the 2019 Oxford Legal Walk.[/p][p]Our team so far is:- Mandy Richards, Wendy Spray, Kate Griffin, Gail Craig, Helen Pinne, Sheena Crozier[/p][p]We are walking on September 30th to raise funds for free legal advice centres in and around Oxford[/p][p]Our team is raising funds for the Agnes Smith Advice Centre and all funds donated on this page will be passed to the Centre with no deduction. [/p][p]The Agnes Smith Advice Centre is an independent advice centre based in Blackbird Leys, on the south east edge of Oxford. For most people in Blackbird Leys, their income hasn’t grown in years, and basic living costs have continued to go up. In this climate, people struggle to get by. Our work is designed to help the most vulnerable in society so they don't fall through the safety net.[/p][p]Our specialist caseworkers give much-needed advice with benefits, debt and housing issues, helping people to find lasting solutions to the problems they face. Last year, we helped people claim additional benefits of over £1,300,000. We helped 51 people to remain in their homes instead of being evicted for rent arrears. And we helped write off debts of more than £600,000, enabling people to make a fresh start. We exist to help Blackbird Leys residents live with dignity in a thriving community.[/p][p]The need for our service has grown over recent years. The impact of austerity, together with the introduction of Universal Credit, has meant we are seeing people with increasingly complex problems, and the demand for specialist advice is higher than ever. But the funding for providing that help has not kept up, so we are walking to raise some of the funds needed.[/p][p]Please donate as generously as you are able[/p][p]Many thanks for your support[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
