My story

[p]Hi, thanks for visiting my page. I am running the London Marathon 2019 in order to raise money for Dementia Revolution, a joint project that funds both Alzheimer’s Research UK and Alzheimer’s Society. I am doing this in memory of my late Grandfather, who passed away in April 2018 after spending the last 9 years of his life suffering with this cruel disease.[/p][p]I decided to run for these charities as they fund key research into how the disease works and what can be done to prevent and stop the progress of dementia as well as improving the lives of those that live with this disease. Dementia research is desperately underfunded. For every person living with dementia, the annual cost to the UK economy is over £30,000 per person and yet only £90 per person is spent on dementia research each year. With the number of cases of dementia expected to triple by 2050, this is a huge societal problem that will need to be solved.[/p][p]In order to raise funds for this charity I have decided to run the London Marathon. I will be spending many hours pounding the pavement as by my calculations I have never run more than 3 miles in 1 go, let alone 26.2. To say I am nervous about this is an understatement.[/p][p]By donating on my behalf, for the below amount your donation could:[/p][p]£15 could help fund research to improve MRI brain scanning, taking us towards earlier and more accurate diagnosis.[/p][p]£50 could assist scientists developing an Alzheimer's blood test, which could help to detect the disease in its earliest stages.[/p][p]£100 could help provide the tools for scientists to map 10,000 genes in minute detail, identifying targets for the development of new treatments.[/p][p]Your support is really appreciated and I cannot thank you enough for your help in funding this research and helping improve the lives of those with Dementia.[/p]
