My story

[p]************ EVERY POUND YOU DONATE WILL BE DOUBLED ****************[/p][p][br][/p][p]In two moments of madness I seem to have signed up for two full-length marathons which are taking place two weeks apart. I've never even run one marathon before so I need all the inspiration I can get. The chance to raise money for a cause dear to my heart is really spurring me on during training and I'm sure it will help on the race days themselves. [/p][p][br][/p][p]You: "So what's this great cause then?"[/p][p]Me: "Bnei Akiva UK"[/p][p]You: "But isn't BA just a youth movement?"[/p][p]Me: "Well first things first, there are thousands of people across the world whose lives have been immeasurably impacted by Bnei Akiva UK, and this includes me. Without BA I would:[/p][p]· never have met some of my closest friends[/p][p]· live in a different country[/p][p]· may well have not received an offer to work in my current job, nor my next job (which I'm starting next month)[/p][p]· missed out on being inspired by my madrichim and chanichim (some of you may even be reading this)[/p][p]· and, more broadly, I imagine I'd live my life with quite different ideals.[/p][p]So, if you think I turned out acceptably, please be so kind as to donate…"[/p][p]You: "Ok, but you're already 29, if I were to donate, what would my money go to?"[/p][p]Me: "A brilliant programme that will help make a real difference to the lives of disadvantages Israeli children. Any donations we raise (and remember your kind donation will be doubled) is going to support the re-launched Kaytana camp. Bnei Akiva UK (in partnership with the UJIA) will be sending 17 year old madrichim to the north of Israel to run a summer camp for disadvantaged youth. Kaytana will provide an amazing experience to these Israeli children and some much needed respite for their families as well. It will also strengthen the bonds which these Israeli children have with the global Jewish community. Just as importantly, the UK madrichim will see first-hand that being a proud Zionist doesn't mean you have to think Israel is already perfect, instead, it means that you should strive to play your part in improving the state; helping it to live up to its ideals.[/p][p]Any remaining money will go towards supporting all of Bnei Akiva's regular activities which rely almost entirely on youth volunteers and are becoming increasingly difficult to fund."[/p][p]You: "Hmm you've almost convinced me, do you have a clincher?"[/p][p]Me: "How about this, if you donate over £54 you can choose a track for my playlist on the Jerusalem Marathon. Also, if we raise over £8,000 (£4,000 doubled) then I'll run the Jerusalem Marathon wearing a Bnei Akiva movement shirt.[/p][p]You: "Ok, here are my credit card details"[/p][p]Me: "Thanks so much! Terms and Conditions apply:[/p][p]1. If I get injured in the first marathon I may have to cancel the second one[/p][p]2. The generous donor is only willing to match donations up to £5,000 (until we have raised £10,000 in total)[/p][p]3. I may have to customise the movement shirt to reduce wind drag. Think scrunchee in the back of the shirt or maybe more[/p][p]4. Maximum track length is 5 minutes"[/p]
