My story

[p]10 years ago I travelled with over 40 Cranbrook School students to Tanzania with the FUM charity, helping with their work to improve conditions in local villages. [/p][p]Since then, the link between the school and the FUM charity has continued.[/p][p]FUM is a small charity working in the Tabora Region of Tanzania, specifically in the Districts of Nzega, Sikonge, Urambo and Kaliua.[/p][p]This year I will be running the Virgin London Marathon for FUM, with the aim to raise money to provide a reliable supply of good quality water to the Ibambo Clinic and Health Centre. I have only been running for two years and I have never run a marathon…[/p][p]The Centre opened in Easter 2018, running a limited service for local villagers, however full service will only be possible when there is on-site accommodation for medical staff and a reliable supply of good quality water. [/p][p]The plan is to construct a large underground tank to store rainwater, similar to the tank at (fairly) nearby Nyasa clinic. This will cost around £10,000 and this is what I will be raising money for. [/p][p]Poor quality drinking water is a major cause of diarrhoea, the second most common ailment after malaria and the cause of death of an estimated 30,000 children each year in Tanzania. [/p][p]Please give whatever you can to support this worthwhile charity.[/p][p]Please note that FUM is a very cost effective organisation with more than 95% of donations spent on projects.[/p][p] [/p]

Good luck Alex. I know second hand (!) that it is an excellent cause and that the money raised is used affectively. I’ve seen you run so I know you will ‘smash it’ but most importantly enjoy the day!
