My story

[p]I remember watching my Dad running a marathon when I was around 3 years old. Since then, I have always thought it would be something I would do at some point in my life. But each year passes by and it never seems quite the right time.[/p][p]Well, 2019 is the year!! Yes, I am signed up to take part in the London Marathon on 28 April 2019 and I am delighted to be raising money for a fantastic charity, DePaul.[/p][p]DePaul helps young people who are homeless, vulnerable and disadvantaged. DePaul empowers young people experiencing homelessness by providing emergency accommodation, supported housing and other services to help people rebuild their lives. DePaul's mission is to end homelessness and change the lives of people affected by it, aiming for a society in which everyone has a place to call home and a stake in their community.[/p][p]I walk through the city centre of Manchester each day to and from work and am continually shocked and horrified at the number of people that are homeless and living in such appalling conditions. I see it first hand and it reminds me every day to be thankful to come home to a lovely, warm and safe house with my beautiful family around me. I can't imagine life without this safety and comfort, especially not for my children.[/p][p]So hopefully I can play a small part in helping DePaul to make a difference. [/p][p]Right now I am totally excited about the challenge, and quite relaxed about it given it is sooo next year!! I'm sure as April approaches I will be more and more daunted by it and worrying about whether I will actually make it round! 5km is currently my distance of choice. I once ran 10 miles (in York in 2017) but that was a one off![/p][p]Your generosity and support will really make a difference to this brilliant charity and it will certainly make me want to get out and train over the next few months to rise to the challenge, even when its cold and wet and dark. Urgh! Quite frankly it will make it impossible for me to back out!!![/p][p]A huge thank you from me in advance. [/p]
