My story

[p]Thank you for taking the time to visit my Virgin Money Giving page.[/p][p]In April 2020 I am taking on the London Marathon. I have never run a marathon before and the thought of having to conquer 26.2 miles is a very daunting prospect, but I am doing this to support a really worthy charity. I have outlined below why I am taking on this challenge and I would love some support from you all. [/p][p]I have chosen the London Marathon because the London Marathon holds great memories of going to support my brother take part in the 2014 marathon with my mum. Sadly, when I run my race my mum can't be there to support me and that is why I have teamed up with MacMillan Cancer Support as I understand the invaluable work that they do.[/p][p]My mother lost her fight with cancer back in 2015. I can’t imagine what it is like to be told that you have cancer, but I do know what it is like when a loved one tells you they have cancer. The emotions you feel are immense, and you have so many questions but ultimately, you don’t have a clue what to do. This is where Macmillan come in, and I can’t tell you the relief when your world is spinning out of control and you don’t know which way to turn to have some amazing people come to your rescue. The first thing one of the nurses did for my mum was give her a massive hug and reassure her that she was in good hands. From that moment on the spinning slowed down and we started to get some answers to the numerous questions we had. Every time we turned up to an oncology appointment, mum was welcomed by a Macmillan nurse with the biggest smile and another hug and a quick chat to briefly hear how she was getting on. The Macmillan team made the horrible ordeal of going to the oncology appointments bearable and when some tough news was coming they would be there support my mum the whole way through and ensuring she understood the situation as best as possible. I was not there at my mums last appointment with the team so didn’t witness how they dealt with having to tell my mum that the cancer was winning the fight and there was nothing more that could be done. I have no doubt that they were incredible just like they were every step of the way before then. Between the countless appointments, the many phone calls with the Macmillan team I cannot fault their professionalism, friendliness and level of care. They are amazing people![/p][p]The stats around cancer are crap, and the reality is, is that 1 in 2 people get cancer. The numbers are horrendous, but for those that have to deal with cancer the Macmillan team are there for them every step of the way and you could not be in better hands. [/p][p]I have set a target of £2,500 but I would love to smash this and give this charity just a little of what they deserve. Please donate whatever you can spare to help me raise some money to support this amazing charity and give me the motivation I will need to get out there over the Winter and get my training in. Your support will give Macmillan the tools they need to help others just like they helped my mother though some incredibly tough times.[/p][p]I can’t tell you how much I will appreciate your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p]Lewi[/p][p][br][/p]
