My story

[p]2020 forced me to dig deep to get through what was the most challenging year of my life. As an active person, I typically seek solace in exercising but running was always a form of exercise I just couldn’t get the hang of. However, with the woes of lockdown forcing gyms to shut, leaving me with empty weekends to fill, I looked to running as my escape – and as a challenge, I actually had control over. [/p][p]As the weeks went by and my ability to run further increased, so too did my love for goal setting, changing my perspective and giving me something positive to focus my energy on. Two months later, I decided to take this one step further and sign up for a half marathon – raising money for Parkinson’s, a disease that has impacted my family and other loved ones that have crossed my path. [/p][p]Our much-loved Nana sadly passed away due to complications of the disease 10 years ago. I always remembered her as frail and a little distant, but nevertheless, she was fiercely independent and always endeavoured to go on her walks amongst the daffodils in Sefton Park in Liverpool, despite it being such a challenge for her. [/p][p]I’ve also seen closely how the disease has affected others and their immediate families, so when it came to choosing a charity to run for, there was no doubt it would be Parkinson’s Trust. [/p][p]There is currently no cure and existing treatments can only improve symptoms. Coming to terms with the impact this disease has on their lives is extremely hard and many people will suffer from anxiety and depression as a result. [/p][p]THE CURE PARKINSON’S TRUST [/p][p]The Cure Parkinson's Trust is a fantastic charity that funds projects with the aim to slow, stop or reverse Parkinson’s Disease (PD), and to transform the lives of those who live with PD. Their research committee evaluates new proposals and analyses research reports from the trials being funded to ensure that the science is robust, progress is effective and results are disseminated rapidly. With ten million people over the world diagnosed with PD, this cure cannot come soon enough.[/p][p]Please support me as I run this half marathon by making a donation. Together we can help fund research breakthroughs and provide vital support that can transform the lives of people living with the disease and their families. [/p]
