My story

[p]Thank you for coming to my page- just clicking through means so much to me and my family! [/p][p]I’m an off-road runner through and through, but when the opportunity came up to run the London Marathon to fundraise for Kidney Research, I thought I’d challenge myself …. it’s hard running on tarmac, especially 26.2miles of it! [/p][p]I’m doing this all for my Dad, Roger Tant. Dad’s Kidneys do not work as they should do, in 1996 he became very unwell and spent a great deal of time in the hospital, then drug controlled his health returned to a somewhat normal level- although taking multiple medications to ensure his kidneys could continue to work had many downsides and side effects[/p][p]In 2014, his Kidneys decided the medication wasn’t enough- and for over 5 years he has spent 3 long mornings a week at hospital hooked up to a Dialysis machine. Without this, he wouldn’t be here today. He’s had many complications due to his Kidneys not processing fluid as they should, including multiple months in hospital last year when his health deteriorated heavily. With the dedicated care of the Renal Unit at Sussex County Hospital, and an abundance of care from his family, this year we see Dad “As well as can be”. [/p][p]Every session of Dialysis removes fluid that builds up in his body that his Kidneys cannot process. If fluid is not removed it is toxic. Every single day he is only allowed to consume 750ml of liquid in total, otherwise the balance of in vs out is compromised and will land him in hospital pretty quickly. He is exhausted after his mornings at hospital- BUT he is still here. Still able to laugh, smile, walk and be my Dad and my best friend. [/p][p]I’m proud to be supporting Team Kidney and fundraising for such an important charity! [/p]
