[p]Headway Devon are a phenomenal charity that help support people and their families who have had their life changed forever after suffering from brain injury. [/p][p]In 2014, my Dad suffered from a severe stroke, causing him to be partially paralysed and leaving him with little speech, hearing or site. 5 years on, he has now relocated back to Devon and receives support from the team at Headway Devon on a weekly basis. He is able to socialise at their support centre with others who have similar disabilities and take part in activities with the help of their volunteers. He also receives help with speech and movement which has improved incredible amounts since his stroke. It's a great opportunity for him to get out of the house and explore a different environment, even better knowing he is in safe hands. [/p][p]My family and I can't thank the team at Headway Devon enough for the support that they give my Dad and other victims of brain injury. I will be running the Bournemouth Half Marathon on 6th October to raise awareness for this amazing charity and raise as many donations as we can for the centre in Exeter. Any donations, little or large, will be greatly appreciated and used towards their facilities that help patients and their families. Headway Devon could not function without the help of it's fundraisers! [/p][p]A stroke can change your life forever within just a couple of minutes, and noticing the signs of a stroke early can help to reduce any effects that you will live with afterwards. Using the FAST test (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) is the best way to notice if someone you are with is suffering. Anyone can suffer from a stroke at any age and it can happen at any time, meaning it's really important to be aware of what it is. Further details on the effects of stroke, how to notice the signs and how you can help to prevent it can be found at: https://www.stroke.org.uk/.
