Team story

[p]Alison Rostron(Mum) and Paul Bennett (Son) are for the 3rd time attempting to run the 40th Virgin London Marathon together on the 3rd October 2021. We are part of a team of 6 runners raising money for the Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers supporting injured military serviceman and woman towards the incredible DMRC Café Project for the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Stanford Hall, Loughborough. This area will be made specifically to help recovering patients to have an area to relax and spend time with their families during their recovery period. Please read about our close friend Simon Harmer's story at www.simonharmer.com who served for our country in Afghanistan and suffered the loss of both his legs during this conflict and spent time at Headley Court, the older military hospital, for his rehabilitation and recovery. [/p][p]Alison completed her first marathon in 1993 and has completed another 5 since then including in 2019 where our family and friends were all incredibly proud as she was carrying a bad injury but managed to get to the end of the finish line in a great time! Regrettably the injury is still not completely cured but with physio and some key training Alison will hopefully once again be running as one of very few runners who have just turned 70 and I know all friends and family will all be super supportive. Just amazing to be running with Mum again for London's 40th marathon![/p][p]In 2017 Paul run the London marathon in brogues, and then in 2019 he attempted a Guinness world record for "Fastest Male Dressed as Large shoe" only to be beaten on the line by a flip flop. Although he did win the record eventually through the appeals process it still left a sour taste for not being given the award on the finish line. So for 2021, Paul will once again be going for a Guinness World Record Attempt for the Fastest Male in Ski Boots and have to break a blistering time of 5.30 hours. [/p][p]Please sponsor us as The Pattenmakers have set a huge target to raise to help our injured military servicemen and woman but also this will possibly be the last marathon that Mum and Paul will run together[/p][p]thanks for all your help, [/p][p]Alison and Paul[/p]
