Amelia's London Marathon for KSLP

[p]Having been evacuated from Freetown this summer I wanted to find another way to support King's Sierra Leone Partnership with whom I was working.  KSLP have been in Sierra Leone since 2012 working to strengthen the country's health system by improving medical training, clinical services, policy and research.  [/p][p]Since Ebola arrived in Sierra Leone in May, KSLP have been at the heart of the international response collaborating with Sierra Leonean partners, NGOs and the UK government. They have also ensured that Connaught Hospital remained open giving local people access to essential medical services such as malaria treatment and an A&E.[/p][p]Your support will help KSLP fulfil their commitment to support Sierra Leoneans long after the Ebola reponse is finished to ensure that the healthcare system is resilient to future outbreaks and that local health workers have the resources and capacity to respond to the population's health needs. [/p][p]Whilst in Freetown I was training for the Liberia Marathon with the tremendous coaching of Idrissa Kargbo, Sierra Leone's marathon champion (pictured) who shepherded me safely through the crazy traffic and monster potholes and provided encouragement, "You are strong, but SO slow!"  Like most other events in Ebola hit countries the Liberia marathon was cancelled.  I am running in London to show Idrissa, and other friends in Freetown I still care.  I would be delighted to have your support.[/p][p]Thank you very much for visiting my fundraising page and for any donations.
