My story

[p]Thank you for visiting our team's fundraising page for the 2019 London Legal sponsored walk. We're taking on 10K for justice on the 17th June.[/p][p]Our team is: Marek Marczynski, Nick Williams, Lucy Claridge, Kate Logan, Katharina Theil and Daniel Cullen. [/p][p]We are walking with the Lord Chief Justice and thousands of lawyers to raise funds for legal aid. [/p][p]The money will be used to support organizations providing pro-bono legal work in London and South East England. [/p][p]In 2016 Amnesty expressed serious concerns about cuts to the legal aid system and we have continued to fight against them since then. We believe that cuts to legal aid in the UK have ‘decimated access to justice’ and left thousands of the most vulnerable, including children and people with learning difficulties, without essential legal advice and support. You can read more about it here: https://www.amnesty.org.uk/files/aiuk_legal_aid_report.pdf [/p][p]You can also watch a video in which the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Burnett explains why we walk & why it matters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3u8_g06bv8 [/p][p]In November 2018, following his visit to the UK Professor Philip Alston, United Nations Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, said that there had been dramatic reductions in legal aid availability in England and Wales since 2012, which have 'overwhelmingly affected the poor and people with disabilities, many of whom cannot otherwise afford to challenge benefit denials or reductions and are thus effectively deprived of their human rights to a remedy'. [/p][p]If you would like to help us you can:[/p][p]1. Join the walk on 17 June 2019. You do not need to be a lawyer to do so![/p][p]2. You can donate via our fundraising page[/p][p]3. You can share this information with others [/p][p]Please sponsor our walkers as generously as you are able[/p][p]Many thanks for your support[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
