My story

[p]This distance training has been a very new experience for me, but I like a challenge and after regretting not running the Bath Half last year I thought this year would be a great opportunity to increase the mileage![/p][p]Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment (S.U.R.E) is a fairly new charity founded in 2000. It is based in Somerset, particularly Musgrove Hospital, helping cancer patients receive the best possible treatment with the best chance of cure or recovery, by ensuring they have local access to specialist equipment during their treatment. You can read more about this charity here: http://www.surecharity.org.uk/index.asp [/p][p]My Grandad, has always been active and an inspiration for me to keep fit throughout my lifetime, but unfortunately in the last few years he has required cancer treatment. This has limited his ability to continue with the running and cycling that he has always enjoyed so I wanted to take a small step in his shoes from many years ago, and run the Half Marathon for him and others fighting these same battles. When I approached him to ask if there was a particular charity that he felt connected to, S.U.R.E was the charity mentioned. Often he has had to travel to Bristol for treatment, which has proved difficult with travel arrangements but the work of S.U.R.E relieves the pressure of traveling these long distances. [/p][p]So, I have seen first hand what difference this charity could make, and this was just to the life of one person. With ANY kind donations S.U.R.E has the potential to help so many more cancer patients, particularly in the Somerset area. [/p]
