My story

[p]We all know I love an alcoholic beverage and a night out or 10. Which is why you will know this is going to be an ENORMOUS challenge for me. I am extremely unfit and cannot even run up the stairs, let alone a half marathon! To add to this, I have found out I really really hate running. It will be tough, but Ben had it tougher.[/p][p]Ben was only 7 and will remain forever 7. The strongest of the strong, the bravest of the brave.[/p][p]Pass The Smile for Ben Crowther is a Special Named Fund at CCLG, raising funds for research into rhabdomyosarcoma and supportive care, including nutrition and complementary therapies.[/p][p]Ben was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma in June 2018. He gained his superhero wings in June 2019 and now flies high with the birds and the angels. He stays with us forever in our hearts.[/p][p]Before diagnosis he was a bright, happy, cheeky boy. He remained the same despite the ongoing brutal effects of his chemotherapy treatment. Even when first diagnosed he wanted to Pass his Smile to other people to cheer them up. Pass The Smile was born. [/p][p]Treatment for rhabdomyosarcoma has not advanced for decades and survival rates are shockingly poor. It shouldn't be like this and more research into better, kinder, targeted treatments are desperately needed.[/p][p]• Cancer Research, the largest charity in the UK, only spend 1.4% of their funding on childhood cancer.[/p][p]• About 1,900 children (up to the age of 15) in the UK are diagnosed with cancer each year. These cancers can be quite different from cancers affecting adults.[/p][p]• In the UK, around 2,200 teenagers and young adults (15-24 years old) are diagnosed with cancer every year.[/p][p]• More than 8 in 10 children in England survive their cancer for 5 years or more (all cancers combined); but some cancer groups and cancer types have much lower survival.
