[p]Izzy and I are going to attempt to walk the Great Himalayan Trail (GHT), we start on the 15th Feb!![/p][p]We are going to be putting ourselves through the highest highs and the lowest lows (physically and psychologically) and walking through some very remote areas. These are areas that need our support; local communities have poor healthcare, education and equal opportunities and so we would like to raise some money that will assist in long term changes. After some research into various charities we have decided that PHASE is a well-structured, active organisation that targets health care, education and livelihoods to try and drive long term change using a people-centred and needs-driven approach. [/p][p]ABOUT PHASE - [/p][p]PHASE (Practical Help Achieving Self Empowerment) empower isolated communities in Nepal through sustainable health, education and livelihood opportunities. Following the devastating earthquakes in Nepal they have also provided essentials such as healthcare, food and shelter.[/p][p]https://phaseworldwide.org/[/p][p] ABOUT OUR TRIP-The GHT is a combination of local trails which connect small villages in the Himalayas. These trails have been mapped in a book and split into the High (altitude) Route and the Low (altitude) Route, they take approx. 3-6 months respectively. We will link the high and the low together and attempt to walk across the whole country in about 4 months. We will be unassisted for the walk, so will be carrying all our own gear and navigating/asking locals for directions, though depending on our route we have a compulsory guide for one section.[/p][p]We have a GPS tracker and will update Facebook with our progress when we can get internet. [/p][p]A few fun facts -[/p][p]-Distance 1300km – 1600km (approx. the length of the UK)[/p][p]-We have been told that may lose up to 20% of our body weight[/p][p]-Highest Pass – 5760m🗻[/p][p]-They say we will spend 20% of our time lost!🙈[/p][p]-By the end we will have ascended the height of Everest from sea level about 14 times😬[/p][p]-As far as we can tell 89 people have successfully completed the walk from border to border[/p][p]Keep your fingers crossed for us!🤞[/p][p][br][/p]
