My story

[p]During the Second World War, the girls of Moira House (now Roedean Moira House) were evacuated from Eastbourne to the relative safety of Lake Windermere. It must have felt like a whole new world to them, and many former pupils have very fond memories of this time at The Ferry Hotel, right by the lake.[/p][p]This part of the school’s history provides us with an invaluable teaching resource and many of the girls have been learning about evacuation as part of their studies. In a bid to bring this part of our history to life, I shall be doing a charity bike ride, from here in Eastbourne up to what was The Ferry Hotel – that’s 600km in four days![/p][p]I will be raising money for BHCT, a wonderful charity which I very much hope you will support. BHCT is a search and rescue charity that seeks to save lives in the local area. Trained chaplains are available every hour of the day, every day of the year to reach out and offer support and hope to anyone and everyone. I feel it is important as a school that mental health is openly discussed[/p][p]Since their foundation in 2004 the BHCT have responded to over 6000 incidents and my goal is to raise at least £6000 to match this. Every £5 raised will power the charity’s search lights for a week, every £40 helps them to run a patrol vehicle for a day and every £100 helps them to equip and train a new chaplain.[/p][p]My epic voyage commences from school on Saturday April 20 at 8.00am from Roedean Moira House and I am due to arrive at Lake Windermere (Ferry Hotel, now the Freshwater Biological Association) on Tuesday April 23.[/p]
