My story

[p]Back in October 2019, I was one of the lucky few to get a ballot place to run the London Marathon in 2020. Little did I (or anyone else) know, that the race would be cancelled, not once, but twice. So after training for the third time for a marathon, I am hoping to finally make it to the start line in London on the 03rd October 2021. [/p][p]I'd always said that if I had the chance to run the London Marathon, I'd do it for a charity that's close to my heart - Child Bereavement UK.[/p][p]CBUK is an incredible charity that provides support to families and educates professionals when a child of any age dies or is dying, or when a child is facing the bereavement of a parent or sibling, helping them to deal with grief and ultimately rebuild their lives.[/p][p]I first came to hear about CBUK when, at the age of 16, my mum passed away following complications from an accident on a family holiday in France - it was so sudden, we didn't even have a chance to say bye...[/p][p]My younger sister (13) and I, were 'fortunate' to be surrounded by an incredibly supportive family, but even so, trying to comprehend the situation and understand the complicated feelings of grief at a fairly young age was incredibly difficult. I remember all sorts of emotions, ranging from shock to anger, to sickening disbelief. We were put in touch with the CBUK team who, thanks to the charity's fantastic team of counsellors, encouraged us to talk, to be aware of our feelings and over time, to understand and make sense of each emotion. The support I received has stuck with me ever since, and although seventeen years on, things are much better, I can still relate to much of the support given to us by Child Bereavement UK. [/p][p]It's for this reason that I have chosen CBUK as my charity for the London Marathon 2021. I've set myself a fundraising target of £1,500, hoping to do my small bit to help the charity continue rebuilding the lives of those who need it. [/p][p]I would really appreciate it if you could give whatever you can, even the smallest donation means the world to me and is hugely valued by the team at Child Bereavement UK.[/p][p]Thank you so much![/p]
