My story

[p]Hi, thanks for visiting my page.[/p][p]Those of you who know me know I'm not a sporty guy whatsoever - so why am I attempting to stagger around the streets of London for 26 miles on 23rd April 2017?[/p][p]As many of you know, our eldest Son Charlie (11) is on the Autistic Spectrum and although we wouldn't change him for the world (he's funny, clever, and generally amazing) we have had some challenges when it came to education and finding the right school for Charlie.  We're in a good place now and have luckily found a great school for him; we feel blessed but this wasn't always the case. [/p] [p]I also work in the software industry and know so many people with undiagnosed Autism (we need lots of Autistic people in our industry) and so I spend a lot of time with Autistic people and always try to improve their chances and build bridges between them and the less-understanding people out there. This is working well in the main, has been a career-long mission and will continue to be so.  [/p] [p]However I know that other people with ASD continue to have challenges and perhaps we ourselves have some ahead when it comes to further education and ongoing prospects for Charlie - therefore I'll do anything I can to help others find the "right place" when it comes to schooling, further education and general help with their challenges. We have been lucky - partly due to hard work but also down to a good support network - some people are not so lucky. And this is why I want to give something back by helping this great charity who help Autistic people of all ages who are looking for their start in life. [/p] [p]Additionally: I'm not a football fan - I'm much more comfortable at a keyboard. However in 2014, along with others, I saw a need for a Pan-Disability football team in the Princes Risborough Area, giving less able kids the chance to get outdoors on a Saturday morning and have some sporting chances that other kids have. I bit the bullet and embarked upon the FA Level 1 Football Coaching course. 2 seasons later and we now have around 11 kids with various disabilities (primarily ASD but some physical disabilities too) many of whom had never kicked a ball before. We're now a close-knit team and last season joined a Pan-Disability League (http://www.bobileaguefootball.org.uk/) and have already played in numerous tournaments.  [/p] [p]We're doing okay and as a team have a strong parent group, two trained coaches and are building a good little social and support group as well as playing some reasonable football. I feel as if the team is doing well enough now for me to take on a new challenge, hence my need and passion to help Ambitious About Autism by doing the London Marathon in 2017. [/p] [p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to Ambitious About Autism. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][p] I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations. Once you have donated, please check out my training blog here for more info: www.forkgen.com. [/p]
